![]() Both sidekicks and captains have varying gameplay attributes with "balanced" and "defensive" play types available. Kritter is the goalkeeper for all sides except the "Super Team", which consists of four captain robots and a Robo-Kritter. Each team consists of a captain character from the Mario series and three secondary Mario characters known as "sidekicks". Super Mario Strikers is a five-a-side football console video game comprising characters and themes from the Mario series. Gameplay Opponents can be frozen by blue shells with the score tied between Waluigi and Peach. A sequel, Mario Strikers Charged, was released for the Wii in 2007. ![]() ![]() In general, reviewers lauded Strikers' accessibility and multiplayer gameplay, but criticised the lack of gameplay modes and single-player offerings. ![]() The game received "generally favorable reviews" according to video game review aggregator Metacritic. Each team comprises a goal keeper, a main Mario character (captain), and three of the same secondary Mario characters known as "sidekicks". Each team's captain can use "Super Strikes" that, if timed accurately, will result in two points scored for the striker's team. As in other games such as Mario Power Tennis, the player can use Mario-themed items such as bananas and red shells to hinder the opposition and gain the advantage. The game features the basic aspects and objectives of a football game, although no referees are present and characters can legitimately shove others out of possession of the ball. Strikers is a sports game incorporating characters and themes from the Mario franchise. This was also the last Mario game to be released on the GameCube in Japan and North America. The game's developers had worked on NHL Hitz Pro before development of Strikers, which served as an influence for the fast-paced and physical nature of the game. Then, on offense, you have to constantly be ready with a quick-reflex dodge or be on the lookout for an open pass to avoid losing the ball to a similar pummeling.Super Mario Strikers, known in Europe and Australia as Mario Smash Football, is a 2005 sports video game developed by Next Level Games and published by Nintendo for the GameCube. You'll find yourself constantly charging at nearby opponents to knock them down and get the ball or prevent a pass, without a yellow or red card in sight. While the game is ostensibly a four-on-four game of soccer (without the possibility of the ball going out of bounds), it more closely resembles a knock-down, drag-out brawler most of the time. If you played the original Super Mario Strikers on the GameCube or its 2007 sequel on the Wii, you know the basics here. And while the game has some balancing issues (especially in single-player mode), as a whole, it's a frenetic and fun take on the sport that could easily sustain a strong online multiplayer community. Much like its predecessors, Mario Strikers: Battle League fulfills this video game sports fantasy quite nicely, offering what is essentially the Super Mario Kart version of simplified soccer. In a virtual version, I want to see the sport enhanced with features that would be impossible on a real field of play. If I want a game that captures every detail of a real sport accurately and authentically, I'll just go outside and play that sport myself, or maybe watch some professionals do the same. When it comes to sports video games, I'm of the opinion that the wackier they are, the better.
